Psycholagny
… is a sexual term that refers to the ability to reach or achieve orgasm without any physical stimulation of the genitalia, usually achieved through mental stimulation or fantasy alone. Also referred to as a "psychic orgasm".
有趣的字眼，在網路上亂逛時看到的，想不到有道詞典的滑鼠取詞自動跳出「意淫」的釋義，因此，我趕緊查字典，發現竟然連OED和MW Unbridged都未收，究竟是什麽道理？在Wikipedia找到以上釋義，妙吧？非「意淫」二字足以解釋，重點在意淫後的驚奇結果。不過，想把這字用在日常會話中，恐怕有夠難。

Whether acknowledge it or not, we’re entering into a era of Psycholagny! What prompts me to think about this is the recent "porn-gate" series involving quite a few female stars in Hong Kong.
Psycholagny, literally meaning "psychic orgasm", is a word which can be applied to many phenomena of our times. But before we look at the modern phenomena, may we first look back at the story told by Lu Xun a century ago. Lu Xun wrote about a guy named Ah Q, who is famous for his "spiritual victories", which means, whenever he suffers or gets bullied, he will try to obtain "spiritual victories" by imagining his gains or valor. Even when he is sentenced to death due to a far-fetched connection to the reformist party, he still tries his last "spiritual victory:being illiterate, he endeavored to draw a perfect circle when he is asked to sign on his death sentence! He thinks he is the ultimate winner while all those trying to persecute him are actually losers!
A special plot in the story of Ah Q might however be related to the present-day phenomena. Ah Q often imagines himself sleeping with some women while they won’t even talk to him. This kind of "spiritual victory is in fact a sort of psycholagny, since he is imagining having sex with someone who he cannot get in touch with. According to another dictionary definition, psycholagny also means acquiring an elevated spiritual state of mind through extraordinary gains on the mental aspect without paying correspondent prices.
Recently, a series of "porns" of famous Hong Kong female stars have been spreading very rapidly over the internet. Many portals feature relevant news and some websites keep updating the porns. And what’s more important are those who follow the event, looking for, watching and appreciating the naked bodies and sexually-seducive postures. And what makes this event all the more conspicuous is that the major role, Edison, has had intimate relations with several of the frontline female stars who have already married or had been engaged to someone else. Such lewd photos will certainly do harm to the female stars involved, but what seems more interesting is that their leaked porns have actually become the target for psycholagny of a mass of internet users.
In fact, if we remember well, such psycholagny was also a hot issue a few months ago when the film "Lust Caution" was put on show. Very interetingly, due to the strict censorship of mainland China, the sex clips were basically deleted. It seems obvious that viewers are more interested in those blocked scenes. As censorship can never really block things people really want to see, the sex clips sneaked through firewalls and appeared here and there as if dodging some iron hands. In a word, psycholagny plays its due role again.
In modern times, pressure from all sources are compelling people to seek leisure through some abnormal means, such as peeping into other people’s privacy. Psycholagny is a peeping-Tom-like way of focusing on others’ embarassing privacy to obtain spiritual satisfaction. This is a distorted psychological disease of the Era of Images. And what Jean Baudrillard describes as "entertained to death" might serve as a fine note for such psycholagny in its full swing. Shouldn’t we reflect on this before we are caught to be yet another psycholagnist?
